Responsible gaming

1. The legal position, plainly

The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 prohibits online money gaming in India and prohibits its promotion, with effect from 1 May 2026. Before that Act, betting was already a state subject, and states including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu had their own bans with criminal penalties. Lotus365 is an offshore exchange. It holds no Indian licence, because none exists to hold.

What that means for a player: you are using a service the law in India does not permit, through an ID the law does not recognise. We state this here, in the FAQ on every page and in our terms, because a guide that hides it is not a guide. Whether to go ahead is your decision, as an adult, with that knowledge.

In plain words: this is not a grey area any more. If you play, you carry the legal risk yourself.

2. What an agent-issued ID does not protect

A licensed bookmaker in a regulated country has to hold your money separately, verify your identity, offer deposit limits and self-exclusion, and answer to an ombudsman when a withdrawal is refused. An ID issued on WhatsApp has none of that.

• Your balance is a number the agent controls. Withdrawals depend on the agent paying out. There is no fund you can claim against if they do not.
• No chargeback. UPI transfers to a person are final. Your bank will not reverse a deposit because the panel later blocked your ID.
• No dispute process. If a bet is voided or settled wrongly, the panel's decision is final. Nobody independent reviews it.
• Domains move. When the operator changes domain, old links die and copycat sites appear. Our verified box exists for this reason, and still cannot promise the panel will be there tomorrow.
• Your data sits with strangers. The agent has your number and your payment details. Use a separate UPI handle and never send identity documents.

In plain words: treat every rupee you deposit as spent. If it comes back, good. Nobody can make it come back.

3. Tax on winnings

Under Section 115BBJ of the Income-tax Act, net winnings from online games are taxed at 30% in India, with no basic exemption and no deduction for losses against other income. Licensed Indian platforms deduct this at source under Section 194BA. An offshore exchange and its agents deduct nothing, which does not make the tax disappear. It makes it your job to declare and pay it.

In plain words: a ₹10,000 win is a ₹7,000 win, and the paperwork is yours.

4. Setting a limit you will actually keep

Exchange betting is built for speed: session markets every few overs, cash-out buttons, odds that move with every ball. The only limit that works is one set before the first ball, when you are calm.

1. Pick a monthly number you could lose entirely without touching rent, EMIs, school fees or food. If no such number exists, the answer is zero.
2. Deposit once, at the start. Do not keep UPI open during the match. Topping up mid-game is where almost every bad night begins.
3. Set a time limit as well. One match, then close the app. Session markets reward people who stay; the house edge compounds with time.
4. Never bet to recover. A loss chased is two losses. Write the loss down and stop for the day.
5. Withdraw wins the same day. A balance left in the panel is a balance you will bet. Move it to your bank while it is still a win.
6. Tell one person your number. A limit nobody knows about is easy to move.

The Lotus365 panel does not offer deposit limits or cool-off periods that we could find on our test account. The limit has to live with you.

5. Signs of a problem

Answer honestly. Two or more yes answers are a reason to talk to someone this week, not to bet smaller next week.

• I have bet more than the number I set, more than once in the last month.
• I have borrowed, used a credit card, or delayed a bill to deposit.
• I have hidden how much I play from family or friends.
• I think about the next match or the next session market when I should be working or sleeping.
• I have bet to win back money I lost earlier the same day.
• I feel irritable or low when I cannot play.
• I have opened a new ID after closing one, or after an agent blocked me.
• I have told myself I would stop after one more win.

6. Free help in India

India has no gambling-specific government helpline, but the national mental health lines take these calls every day, in Hindi, English and regional languages, and they do not judge.

Gamblers Anonymous holds meetings in several Indian cities and online. Search for your city; it is free and nobody asks your surname. If money is already the emergency, a debt counsellor at your bank is a better first call than another deposit.

7. How to stop, in practice

1. Withdraw whatever balance you have today. Do not wait for a better moment.
2. Ask the agent to close the ID. Say it in writing on WhatsApp so there is a record, and screenshot it.
3. Block the sites and the app. BetBlocker is free, works on Android and iPhone, and cannot be switched off for the period you choose. Delete the APK.
4. Leave the groups. Telegram and WhatsApp groups that post "sure" tips exist to bring you back. Leave them all in one sitting.
5. Hand over UPI for a month to someone you trust, or set a low daily UPI limit in your bank app.
6. Call one of the numbers above if the urge does not pass in a week. It usually does not pass on its own.

8. For families

If someone in your house is playing more than they admit, the signs are usually money going missing in round amounts, a phone that is never left on the table during matches, and new "loans" from friends. Anger rarely helps. What helps is taking the money side away calmly, a shared bank account or a low UPI limit, and offering to make the first helpline call together. The helplines above also take calls from family members.
